Genealogy - "My Family
Tree"
This course provides a general
introduction to genealogy and family research with advice and
tips and traps in locating family information.
You will learn to use the
Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) genealogy
Personal Ancestral File 5.2 (PAF) program. You will be required
to have a copy of this program, (bought through your tutor at a
nominal sum) to load onto your computer; or it may be downloaded
free from the Internet.
During the course, you will
also use spreadsheet and word processing programs and practice
Internet searches as you learn to explore the best ways to use
some of the many sources of family history information available
today.
Using the PAF Program,
you will learn to:
- Enter an individual's
basic details - names, birth, marriage, death
- Add parents, siblings,
children
- Expand details - places
and events, add notes
- Display and print reports
- family trees, family groups, descendant and ancestor
charts, books and much more
- Enhance and add photos
and copy text from other programs
- Back up your precious
files to floppy disk or CD
Prerequisites: Students
should have completed the Introduction to Computing Course and
should have basic word processing skills and be familiar with
basic file operations.
